HTC, the Taiwanese consumer electronics giant, announced the launch of the first blockchain smartphone ever. The fin-tech company has turned efforts into the latest innovations for quite a while and finally managed to introduce the special gadget on the market.

The Exodus 1 uses an Android Operating System but has high-security features. It includes a secure enclave – a separate area in the phone’s chip, which keeps it safe from the OS.

Phil Chen, the HTC’s decentralized chief officer, described before CNBC the safety component:

Think of it as a micro OS that runs in parallel with Android. It basically is a wallet, but the wallet, what it does is hold your private keys.

Exodus will run decentralized applications and digital programs on the blockchain platform. It will also have a key recovery function for resuming key digits if forgotten.

Other smartphone’s characteristics are a 16-megapixel dual camera, a six-inch display with high resolution and 128 GB of storage.

Smartphones appear to be more secure than laptops, tablets and other devices, according to specialists. It is so because of the so-called TEE or Trusted Execution Environment, the separate to the operating system area. In that sense, Exodus 1 must be a safe storing place for private keys.

The creators explain they target exactly the core audience of the crypto world with the new product. That is the reason, the smartphone to sold only in Bitcoin or Ethereum. Exodus 1 comes at a fixed price of fixed price of 0.15 Bitcoin (ETC) and 4.78 Ethereum (ETH), which means it fluctuates according to the markets’ volatility.

HTC Exodus 1 is available for a pre-order and will start shipping in December.

Update: Norwegian Bitcoin Murder Revealed

As CrispyBull reported, a 24-years old man was killed in Oslo on Monday last week. The young investor was stabbed with a knife more than twenty times in his home in the Majorstuen neighborhood. His name is already known, that was Heikki Bjørklund Paltto, who, according to the local reports, made about a million in Norwegian kroner from Bitcoin investments. His friends say, he was intending to buy an apartment in the Norwegian capital with the profit.

First assumptions were that Paltto became a victim of a peer-to-peer Bitcoin exchange, which went wrong in his residence. It was believed the trader had to meet people and sell Bitcoins for cash.

It turns out it was probably a random murder. More than a week the police had no suspects and did not share any information about the case with the media. Now, it became clear that the killer was Makaveli Lindén, a 20-years old Swedish citizen, the news outlet Verdens Gang states.

Linden tried to run away to Sweden before leaving and was arrested in France. After his escape, the investigating unit in Oslo contacted Interpol for an international support. Soon after that the criminal was caught and detained.

Linden is a ‘friend’ of the Swedish police with a small crimes background, mainly for robbery and drug abuse. According to the local news, he was planning to rob Paltto’s house by a random choice, not being aware that the young victim was a Bitcoin millionaire. They went into a fight and the lethal end followed. The murder had already served for previous offenses and will be now convicted for the horrible murder.

Coinbase and Circle Join Forces to Launch New USD-Backed Stablecoin

In a major collaborative effort, Coinbase and Circle have announced the launch of a new fiat-backed stablecoin: USD Coin (USDC). This initiative marks a strategic step in bridging traditional finance with the digital asset ecosystem.

A Dollar-Backed Stablecoin Built on Ethereum

USDC is a fully collateralized stablecoin, pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar and issued as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain. Its purpose is to offer a trusted and transparent digital dollar that can be easily transferred across crypto platforms and decentralized applications.

CENTRE Consortium: Setting the Standards

The stablecoin is issued under the CENTRE Consortium, a joint initiative by Coinbase and Circle. The consortium aims to establish open standards for fiat-backed digital currencies, thus ensuring that stablecoins like USDC operate with consistent regulatory and technical frameworks.

Transparent and Regulated Issuance

Each USDC token is backed by one U.S. dollar held in a regulated U.S. bank. Further, Circle has committed to monthly attestations from a top-five accounting firm, ensuring full transparency of the fiat reserves that back the tokens.

Coinbase Integration for Seamless Access

Coinbase has already integrated USDC into its platform. Therefore, customers can buy, sell, send, and receive the stablecoin directly through their accounts. This accessibility supports broader adoption and legitimizes USDC as a digital equivalent of the U.S. dollar within the crypto economy.

A Move Toward Mainstream Crypto Adoption

By combining regulatory compliance with blockchain efficiency, USDC represents a critical step toward mainstream crypto adoption. The project underscores the growing demand for stable, interoperable digital assets bridging traditional banking and decentralized finance.

Breaking: First Bitcoin ETFs Ever to be Sold by the U.S. Exchange Bakkt

Bakkt is an exchange platform that serves the U.S. market and aims at mainstream, easy and fast digital assets trading. The company works on the acceptation of the physical Bitcoin futures contracts for quite a while already. Yesterday, October 22nd, Bakkt has finally released the official date of the BTC futures: Wednesday, 12th of December 2018.

Each futures contract calls for delivery of one bitcoin held in the Bakkt Digital Asset Warehouse and will trade in U.S. dollar terms.  One daily contract will be listed for trading each Exchange Business Day,

The press release says.

Bakkt is run by the ICE, Intercontinental Exchange, a Fortune 500 company, which operates on the New York Stock Exchange and governs regulated exchanges and clearing houses around the world.

For the moment, the announcement concerns only U.S. dollars against Bitcoin, but the company plans to include British pounds and Euros soon.

Bitcoin futures contracts will be sold and physically delivered under strict surveillance, the financial institution states. But on the daily contract scheme, there will be no margin trading or leverage options, and no paper claims for real assets cannot be made.

Bakkt operates on the ICE platform, which is regulated by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The company considers its trading options and financial instruments completely safe and secure.

There is a huge anticipation of the Bitcoin ETFs launch on the financial market. Adoption of that kinds, crypto specialists say, would boost Bitcoin’s price to another astronomical level.

However, the announcement is still pending a regulatory approval.

Johnny Depp Dips into the Crypto World, Will Collaborate With the Blockchain Entertainment TaTaTu

Yesterday, 22d of October, became clear that Johnny Depp signed a contract with the blockchain-based platform TaTaTu. The Hollywood Reporter states that the star will partner the cryptocurrency streaming website in the creation of digital content and a film.

TaTaTu was launched six months ago by the Italian-Canadian film producer and entrepreneur Andrea Iervolino, who is currently the company’s CEO. The platform is a decentralized, blockchain-supported network that streams TV and film content. It also airs music, sports, games and post images, and celebrity-related content. The Netflix-like platform issued its own tokens, TaTaTu tokens or TTU, with which viewers and uploaders are paid.

Earlier this year, TaTaTu launched a massive private sale of its tokens and raised more than $575 million through an Initial Coin Offering crowdfunding. It was such a huge funding campaign, that still holds the third place in the ICO history after the EOS and the Telegram tokens. The tokens are now sold for $0.13 with a significant market capitalization of almost $13 million. It seems, the company’s strategy to attract ultra famous film stars attract millions of fans and investors.

Johnny Depp will work through his production company Infinitum Nihil, collaborating with the producer Andrea Iervolino and the AMBI media group. The star will play in a new adaptation of Waiting for the Barbarians, a novel by the South-African writer J.M. Coetzee. The novelist won a Nobel award in 2003 for literature and the novel was listed by Penguin as one of the Great Books of the 20th Century. The book is a powerful critic of the imperialism, a Coetzee’s light motif as being from the colonized South Africa. The story is about a small town of indigenous people, called barbarians, who live next to the Empire, and reaches the limit of the horror and the dark rebuke.

Regarding the project, quoted by the Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp said inspiringly:

In this era of democratized entertainment, I admire the imaginative ethos of Andrea and look forward to collaborating together in a liberating, progressive manner that will befit the principals of our respective entities.

As for the producer, Andrea Iervolino, he sounds quite eager to work with the star, stating that:

Johnny has the ability to conceptualize material in a way that few can and is unburdened of conventional industry formulas that dictate the projects that get made, traditionally. As we make strides to embrace disruptiveness, Johnny will be a key collaborator with us and we are tremendously excited to back his visions and instincts on stories to bring to life.

The film shoot will start later this October in Morocco.

This is the second TaTaTu’s project with a Hollywood stars participation. The first one is the Lamborghini Biopic, which will star Antonio Banderas and Alec Baldwin and will be directed by the Oscar-nominated Michael Radford.
