Chinese Exchange BTCC Shuts Down Its Mining Pool

stock exchange market board

BTCC is a cryptocurrency exchange, originally launched as BTC China. Founded in 2011, the platform had to relocate to Hong Kong in September last year due to the crypto and ICO unfavorable conditions in China and the new policies the government accepted. As CrispyBull informed, the exchange will open a branch in South Korea expected to go live this month.

However, last week the company announced that it will stop all its mining services very soon. The statement, posted on 6th of November on their website, reads:

Today, we regret to announce that due to business adjustments, the BTCC pool will shut down all mining servers on November 15 and will cease operations indefinitely from November 30. In order to avoid unnecessary losses, we ask miners to complete the power switch before November 15th and bind the mining revenue address before November 20th. We will release the profits of all miners in time.

BTCC does not provide any explanation of the reasons that led to the radical decision. The only comment on that account says the closing is imposed by “business adjustments”.

The exchange, based in Hong Kong, is the second largest worldwide. Its trading volume is more than a million USD for 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. BTCC offers four major cryptocurrencies and seven trading pairs.

The announcement certainly moved the crypto community, not only the crypto miners. Apparently, it will not change Bitcoin’s price which seems quite stable for the last week. BTCC end cheerfully, warning miners and traders that “We will see you again!”. We can just wait and see their next business adventure.

Ethereum’s co-founder: Blockchain Brings Luxury

Ethereum golden coin

The co-founder of the second most popular cryptocurrency, the Ethereum, and the founder of ConsenSys, Brooklyn-based software studio, Joseph Lubin talked today on the International Luxury Conference in Hong Kong. In the program, there were participants like the CEOs of Alibaba, Balenciaga, Nike, and other huge corporations.

As New York Times reports, Lubin expressed the opinion that the cryptocurrency could bring more wealth to the people. And if that happens, he said, that would mean a greater luxury demand than the opposite. His exact words are:

I do think we are moving from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset.  I do feel like we are going to be more in control of our identity and our agency on these different decentralized networks and I think that’s going to create more wealth. I think it’s gonna create more interest in expressing ourselves, and I think there will be more appetite for luxury than less.

Lubin is a passionate crypto supporter. He is fond of the blockchain technology predominantly not only of the type of money it represents. According to the Ethereum’s co-founder, the crypto cash will sooner or later replace conventional methods of payment. More important though, would the changes in our everyday lives. Lubin does believe in the ‘global village’ conception where there will be no central authority anymore. Everyone would have access to digital assets and projects would be crowdfunded online.

However, his statement sounds peculiar for the context it was uttered. It sounds like a way to convince global CEOs that the blockchain has a future and they need to invest in it. If that is totally normal for events like this, the way he does it is bizarre. It is curious how much corporate people care about global wealth.

Thai Crypto Scammers Plead Not Guilty on a $24 Million Fraud

prison net

As CrispyBull reported two weeks ago, the Thai fraudulent scheme was organized by the famous soap opera actor Jiratpisit “Boom” Jaravijit and his family. He was arrested in August along with his sister Supitcha and his brother Priniya was detained on the Bangkok airport on October 12th.

Initially, the complaint was submitted by Aamai Otava Saarimaa, a 21-years old investor from Finland who believed he found a good investment opportunity. According to Bangkok Post, he was persuaded to purchase 500 million shares in DNA (2002) Co, to buy shares of Expay Software Co, and to invest in Dragon coins, a cryptocurrency project developed by NX Chain Inc. He transferred Bitcoins a few times to the family for the total worth of $24 million USD, but they failed to keep their promises. The money went to the siblings’ personal account and then shared between the members. They used the investment to buy blocks of land around Bangkok.

The actor Jiratpisit and his sister Supitcha were detained on money laundering accusations. However, they were released soon after on a bail of 2 million Thai bahts.

Now, Priniya will be evicted for similar charges – money laundering and fraudulent investment scheme. As he pleaded not guilty, the court will review the case by 24th of December.

There are three main suspects on the case, Bangkok Post continues, and six other accomplices. Two other members of the family, the investor Prasit Srisuwan and the businessman Chakrit Ahmad, have reached an agreement with the Finnish investor and will not be evicted.

Young British Think Bitcoin is The Future

A new survey, conducted by YouGov, reveals that 21% of the young population in the UK believes that the Bitcoin is the future. The study asks questions about the Bitcoin specifically, without mentioning any other types of cryptocurrencies. It concludes that:

Thinking more broadly about the role of cryptocurrencies in the financial system, one in five Brits (21%) think cryptocurrencies will one day be as commonly used a payment method as card or cash.

Of course, from those asked, young people seemed more familiar with the technology than the elder ones. People in the range between 18 to 24 years old are much more likely to buy a coin or know someone who bought some (family member, friend, colleague, etc.). In that age group, 36% answered positively about purchasing the crypto compared to only 7% in the 55+ group.

Furthermore, men are much more aware of how the Bitcoin works than women. On the question “How well do you think you understand the Bitcoin?”, 45% of the women replied, “not very well”. 33% of the men answered they do understand it fairly well.

However, almost half of the people (43%) think that Bitcoin will not be used as a valid payment method in the near future. And a big part, 34% do not know at all and would not like to predict.

It seems that the idea of a decentralized currency, so important for the Bitcoin, does not seduce Britons so much. In fact, for them, it occurs to scary and unreliable rather than attractive and revolutionary. 24% say they feel “fairly negative” towards the conception of money controlled by the people who use it than by the government. 25% are totally ignorant of that, marked as neutral, which shows that they do not know a lot about it and do not think about the financial system often.

Rapper T.I. Will be Sued for Crypto Scam

Microphone oh purple light

The rapper T.I., whose real name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., will be sued for $5 million for a crypto scam, stars gossip outlet TMZ reports. A group of 25 investors claim they invested more than $1.3 million into the hip-hop star’s token and the whole venture cost them over $2 million.

The project is believed to be a classic pump and dump scheme. It was launched in 2017 under the name of FLiK tokens. The rapper and his partner Ryan Felton took on the ICO wave and start selling tokens for less than a penny. They promised the price would surge from 6 cents to $14.99 in course of the next fifteen months. That calculates to the incredible spike of 25,000%. Unfortunately, the investors bought it and pour lots of funds into the starry initiative.

Now, both T.I. and the co-founder of the ICO are being sued. They have allegedly used the rapper popularity and shared the project on social media and among journalists. They also fooled the audience thinking that the actor Kevin Hart will be part of the project. However, Hart is not convicted now.

Mark Cuban was also assumed to join the FLiK venture but again, turned to be just rumours. The pair used social influence to spread the word and reportedly, the price of FLiK tokens did increase for real. Of course, after the scam news came out, it fell down quickly. Currently, according to CoinMarketCap FLiK tokens sell for just $0.0007 USD.

Recently, the crypto hype went so huge that more and more celebrities decide to dive into it. If you wonder which exactly, check out CrispyBull’s list with starts who invested in coins. Eminem also mentioned the word “Bitcoin” in his latest album Kamikaze. Sadly, but a big part of the stars’ endorsement relates to fraudulent schemes.
